Tactile Sensing Research Engineer
Push fingertip pressure and thermal sensing toward human-level - through repeated cycles of design, fabrication, and test on the actual glove.
What you'll do
- Design, fabricate, and iterate tactile sensing hardware across multiple generations.
- Develop sensor structures, materials interfaces, and transduction mechanisms that survive real wear.
- Build experimental setups to characterize sensors under realistic loading, motion, and contact conditions.
- Quantitatively evaluate performance limits and identify dominant failure modes.
- Work with the glove platform and ML teams so tactile signal meaningfully improves the dataset.
What we're looking for
- PhD in robotics, EE, ME, materials science, bioengineering, or related.
- High-impact contributions to tactile sensing or closely related sensing technologies - publications, patents, or deployed hardware.
- Has taken a sensing concept from early prototype through multiple, materially improved generations.
- Hands-on fabrication, assembly, and characterization of physical sensing systems.
- Track record of pushing past fundamental limits rather than working around them.
Nice to have
- Soft or compliant materials in sensing applications.
- Prior work on tactile sensing specifically.
